Inessa Galante, Soprano

Born in Riga, Latvia, Inessa Galante has twice become an international star, learning her craft originally on the stages of the Bolshoi and Kirov. At first her success was limited by the political conditions of the time, and confined to the then "Eastern bloc". It was not until after the fall of the Berlin Wall that Galante could begin to fulfil the prophecies of Zubin Mehta and the late Yehudi Menuhin that she would be a great success also in "the West".

Campion Records realised her potential after hearing a sample recording of her voice in 1995, and arranged for her to record a further 18 operatic arias and songs in Riga. To date Campion Records have issued 9 CDs and 3 further projects are in preparation. BMG Conifer specially requested Inessa Galante to record four operatic excerpts on the CD "The Tchaikovsky Experience", with the Orchestra of The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden conducted by Neeme Järvi.

Inessa Galante's performance of the hauntingly beautiful Caccini's "Ave Maria" on her DEBUT album started a worldwide surge of interest in the piece. A single play on TV in Holland led to a Platinum Disc in that country. As a direct result of success of DEBUT the Caccini "Ave Maria" was recorded first by Lesley Garrett, then a host of other international artists including Charlotte Church, Andrea Bocelli, Sumi Jo and a cello version by Julian Lloyd Webber. However Inessa Galante's performance is still the one which most overwhelms listeners worldwide with its beauty.
It was chosen as ideal background music for the first page of the Website for the Madonna of Nagasaki.

Campion Records commissioned 18 new arrangements especially for Galante who revealed a new richer and warmer voice for the first time on CD. That warmth and richness is also very evident in the recent Wigmore Hall recordings with Roger Vignoles.

Inessa Galante is now in constant demand throughout the world for concerts and operatic roles and will be making return appearances in 2003 and beyond to USA, Korea, Germany, UK and throughout Europe, including performances with the Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam and Scottish Opera.

In December 2003 Inessa starred in The Scottish Operas production of “Aida” where she received the following outstanding reviews:-

“Inessa Galante made a striking Aida”
Daily Telegraph - 10th December 2003

“She is a thrilling dramatic soprano and the best reason for catching this production”
