SINCE THE 1960'S

The official company name is

DISC IMPORTS LIMITED:
"D I Music" is the name by which we have been known in the trade for decades.

Started as a small collector's LP import shop in the 1950s in Manchester, England, the company expanded into recording and publishing in the 1960s.  Disc Imports Limited was formed as a separate company in 1965. For many years both the retail and "behind the scenes" businesses flourished in Manchester, and the large shop of "Rare Records" on John Dalton Street is fondly remembered to this day by many collectors.  In the boom days of vynil LPs, "Rare Records" had large Pop and Jazz departments as well as a thriving classical LP sales business.  At one stage D I Music was exporting Beatles albums to Asia as part of a worldwide specialist distribution business.  D I Music provided a lot of the music heard at that time in elvators, food stores etc. and much of the music played on UK television during the daytime test transmissions, prior to the advent of 24 hour broadasting.  Political and economic changes eventually made large scale specialist LP importing less viable and the retail operation was gradually scaled down and moved to a Manchester suburb.  The retail business was eventually sold, in the 1990s - meanwhile with the coming of CD the other wing of the company gained a new lease of life.  D I Music was active throughout the 1980 & 90s starting its own classical CD label "Campion Records" and continuing to publish and promote a catalogue of music suitable for film, TV, advertising and ambient background use.  D I Music also maintained (as it does to this day) a role as an independent classical CD distributor to the retail trade in the UK, and an exporter of specialised classical product to other national CD distributors in many countries throughout the world.

In 1995 Campion Records began its association with the soprano Inessa Galante and Latvian Radio, and CD production began to become the major part of the company's activity.  At the same time we have published a number of compositions and arrangements by Latvian composers, and the arrangement of Caccini's Ave Maria sung by Charlotte Church on her best selling CD "Voice of an Angel".  Nearly all the arrangements sung by Inessa Galante on her CD "Arietta" were commissioned by D I Music from UK composers. Music supplied by D I Music has been used since the late 1990s by Volkswagen in advertisement, by many programmes on both terrestrial and satellite TV in the UK, and for a key scene in an Australian movie expected to receive worldwide distribution.

WE EXPECT TO CELEBRATE OUR 40TH ANNIVERSARY AS "DISC IMPORTS LTD." IN 2005
